Kiwifruit - A superfruit?

Kiwifruit - A superfruit?

If you live in Singapore, you can easily find green kiwi fruit in your local store, but did you know that kiwi comes in golden and red varieties too? But no matter the color, these fuzzy, brown fruit are power packed with vitamins and nutrients, all especially beneficial for pregnant moms.

  • They are High in Vitamin C

  • Vitamin C is essential for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It's involved in the formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the proper functioning of the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth

Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants that can protect against damage caused by free radicals. So it’s no wonder we are told to load up on Vitamin C when we fall ill!

  • Help with bowel movements

  • The soluble and insoluble fiber found in kiwis help support healthy gut bacteria and help keep bowel movements regular.

The fiber found in kiwis can retain water and swell more than other types of fibers, like apple fiber and wheat bran, which means it’s a good choice for improving stool consistency.

Constipation is a common symptom in late stages of pregnancy and kiwi is a safe and natural way to move things up in the biowaste department!

  • Promotes eye and heart health

  • Heard of Carotenoids? They’re pigments that give vegetables and fruit that bright red, orange and yellow colour! Some examples are carrot, pumpkin, papaya, spinach, avocado. Carotenoids are great for patients who are recovering from eye or cardiovascular surgery.

Well, if you can’t stand the tangy green kiwi fruit, give golden kiwis a try! They’re equally great for health and are slightly sweeter and less tangy!
